  Get your Hot Cross Buns from here where they are freshly made and still warm just out of the oven. You'll notice a big difference compared to what you're used to, especially if you've only ever bought 'em in a supermarket pack of six.
  
  Yes, rumour has it that Hot Cross Buns kicked off in St Albans in 1361, when a 14th Century (obviously) monk made some buns for the poor on Good Friday. The Alban Bun was born.
  
  However, there is some evidence the ancient Greeks put crosses on buns. Anyway, I bought a few from Artisan Baking on Friday and they were grand and lived up the Hot Cross Bun legends of:
  
  > Lasting for a year (too late, already eaten them)
  > Expelling evil spirits (I can confirm there was little or no evil in the house for the duration of the bun's visit)
  > Preventing a kitchen fire (there was no fire)
  > Cementing friendships (the dog is now my friend after I gave her a bit of bun)
